The Aiersi Smallman SC098SPF is designed in similar lines to the Australian styled lattice braced guitars. Aiersi Guitars have a collaboration with the world-famous luthier Yulong Guo.
The design emulates the similarities of a Greg Smallman guitar, but lighter in overall weight. It has its own unique sound that is creamy, open and not metallic hence its more enjoyable to play.
The soundboard comes in either cedar or spruce top with a thinly constructed top between 1.8-1.9mm in thickness to enhance its responsiveness and is made with the finest choice of master grade tone woods. The wooden rosette is very similar to that of the Smallman guitars and looks very beautiful even at a close distance given the great workmanship and attention to detail.
The overall built construction of this guitar is very robust. Some of the features that standout about this guitar at this price point is the elevated fretboard that eases playability in the higher register and the 12-hole tie block at the bridge. The arched back has no braces as it consists of two solid Indian rosewood pieces laminated together and not just plywood with rosewood veneer. This just adds to the stiffness and strength of the back that helps to reflect the sound towards the sound board. The guitar also has a sound port that acts as a personal monitor to the player and an armrest that helps to prevent damping the soundboard and adds to its playing comfort.
The guitar has a warm, creamy, thick tone giving the player more flexibility, as compared to some lattice guitars which may sound metallic and nasal especially on the 1st string. The basses and trebles are punchy with a relatively quick response. The overtones are not overpowering and do not muddy the note separation. The guitar also offers a good projection and sustain.
