A wonderful handmade Classical Guitar with a spectacular set of solid Cocobolo with sapwood for the back and sides. A set like this is hard to find at this price point. The top is a master grade solid Western Red Cedar tight grained. The Rosette consists of of traditional style with matching purflings.
The guitar also comes with an arm rest to aid comfort whilst playing and also prevents the arm from damping the top. The bridge has a 12-hole tie block that increases the break angle of the strings to the bridge which helps to improve the overall responsiveness of the guitar. The guitar is French Polished that adds a nice warmth to the finish and is easier to repair than lacquer or PU finishes. French Polish is a very thinly applied coat and therefore it doesn’t choke the sound of the guitar. This in turn allows the guitar to vibrate freely enabling the tonewoods to bring forth their natural sounding properties to their fullest extent.
The guitar also has a lattice brace that provides great amount of strength to the top; however, the thickness of the top is more less similar to a traditional guitar adding to a more fuller tone. The tone is naturally rich, full and sweet with round deep bass a nice balanced of treble. The guitar has a good sustain and nice overtones. The consistency of tone is across the full range of the fingerboard.
Cocobolo is part of the same dalbergia family as Brazilian and other rosewoods, however it is unique in its brown/orange/yellow colour and is the most dense of the dalbergia woods. It’s also the most beautiful in the dalbergia family. It offers many of the same qualities, such as beautiful, clear highs and deep lows and combines that with the delicious, natural reverb that we associate with rosewood, however, in a more pronounced way. Some luthiers have even compared it to Brazilian due to it bell like glassy overtones.
